Dots and Periods used in date expressions.

My pet peeve!

  • The date used like 12.9.62 instead of the standard 12-09-62 or 12/09/62 this is just stupid! It confuses software as looks like an incomplete IP address. I think it may come from the uninformed seeing IPs (and database use) and thinking it is "high tech" to us the dots between numbers. But instead it is like using "ill regardless" it is just moronic. You will never see it used in a reference book on dates, it is just that stupid to use it that way.

  • We can forget the international argument of using the dd/mm/yy for a moment and focus on just how stupid it is to separate dates with periods on matter w. I found no argument for using this "new" quasi-intelligent format anywhere, it is just confusing and weird. Don't do it, it will make you look silly.
